UPSC IFS Interview

The candidates who will qualify in the Mains Exam will be shortlisted for the Interview in which they will be tested based on their personality. The last stage is the Interview and it comprises 275 marks.

Different elements that influence the selection of the candidates are judgment ability, tolerance, mindfulness, ethics, and many more. The Interview board will test the character of the applicant and not simply information.

  • The world geography with a specific focus on India- the physical, social and economic geography of India is particularly important
  • Indian polity and governance- thorough knowledge of the constitution, Panchayati raj, political system, public policies and schemes, fundamental rights, etc.
  • Sustainable development, economic and social development, demographics of poverty, employment, inclusion, and social sector initiatives.
  • Environment, biodiversity, social issues related to the environment, climate change, on a generic basis, and subject specialization is not required.
  • General Science.

  • Communication and interpersonal skills

UPSC IFS Mains Syllabus 2024

  • Candidates must write an essay in English for Paper I (General English). They will also be asked additional questions to gauge their command of the English language and word choice. Typically, passages will be set for précis or summary.
  • Indian politics, including its political system and Constitution, as well as its history and geography, are covered in Paper II (General Knowledge).
  • Papers III and IV will use the optional subject that the applicants have chosen as their subject.
  • The syllabuses for Papers V and VI will be from the optional subject that the candidates chose.
